Glossary / Above the fold

Above the fold

Above the fold is what a visitor sees before scrolling.

The phrase comes from newspapers folded on a stand. On the web it means the first screen. On a phone that is a small space, so every word there works hard.

Your business name, what you do, where you do it and one way to contact you belong above the fold. Everything else can wait for the scroll.

When we rebuild your site we keep your existing first screen in the match. The three looks then offer different ways to make that first screen land.
